Time to read: About 4 minutes. Contains 857 words.
Good morning!
I didn’t mean to ghost you guys this past week, but April sure started off with a bang. I needed a few days to get caught up after my trip and on top of 4/20 content planning. More updates on all of that in Tuesday’s usual news roundup. For now, I’m going to keep things light with a few intriguing finds from across the weed wide web of late.
My trip to Austin, TX, was lovely, and not just because I had Cowboy Carter as my soundtrack. It was also fun to be in the mix with all the eclipse fervor in that part of the country—I hope everyone gets a break in the clouds to get a peek of it tomorrow! I did indeed catch some friendly, floral whiffs around town. I saw a couple get gently kicked out of the public swimming area of Barton Springs when they tried sneaking a joint (by a lifeguard who didn’t look like a stranger to the smell). My favorite meals were Sour Duck pastries, Cuantos Tacos truck, Patrizi’s pasta stand thing in The Vortex, and the chicken sandwich at Bird Bird Biscuit.
Whenever I posted about the trip, a few followers would recommend somewhere cannabis-friendly to check out—these are the spots I’ll be sure to visit next time I’m in town (and a couple of leads for anyone looking for retail partners in the area): Mary Jae, Redeemer Small Batch, and First Light Books.
Here’s caught my eye while scrolling the past couple of weeks. We’ll save the hard news analysis for weekdays.
Weekend Weed Musings: From the Saved Folder
I thought this was a new fragrance, but apparently, D.S. & Durga’s Cowgirl Grass has existed since the 2000s. Now I’m wondering if seeing ads for it on Instagram is an algorithmic conflation of my plant-based interests and how many times I’ve listened to Beyonce’s new album?
The comment section of this post from SFGate about official organizers canceling the 4/20 event on Golden Gate Park’s Hippie Hill is a heartwarming reminder that cannabis lovers aren’t used to authorization and will celebrate anywhere, any way.
The comment section on this Bon Appetit post about weed brownies offers a chillier reminder of how far we have to go until cannabis is accepted as a neutral part of day-to-day life.
Less platforming washed up celebrities for white labeling a halfhearted cannabis brand. More hyping the celebrities who physically go to city halls with cannabis advocates to get politicians to pay attention! It was so cool to see Rosario Dawson accompany Supernova Women for a Call to Deschedule Cannabis press conference at Oakland City Hall.
The New York Times realized that working out is better with weed. (About time.)
I’m always looking for the perfect fidgeting solution—little shapely objects to keep an idle hand busy—but until now, I never considered how a decorative lighter case could be an option.
I’m still mourning the sunsetting of licensed California brand Cosmic View. I’ll miss their edibles a lot, but I’ll miss the scientific, holistic approach to wellbeing even more. This post about anti-cancer protocol has profoundly impacted the way I cook and choose ingredients.
Kanna has entered the branded plant medicine chat. Are you familiar with this traditional medicinal herb from South Africa, which is associated with a pleasant, sometimes spiritual buzz? A while back, I got a PR package from a company called Ka! Empathogenics, but it got lost under other PR packages until my memory was jogged by a Rave New World newsletter in which author Michelle Lhooq talks about snorting a line of powdered kanna and describes the high as akin to “nature’s MDMA.” Ka! offers chews and tinctures, not powder, but I was intrigued and tried the tincture, which I think gave me a pleasant mood boost and an almost vibrating body high that did actually remind me a little of molly. This week I noticed an Instagram ad for a sublingual called Sunny Melts by Mary & Jane that combines 1 mg of THC with a low dose of kanna.
It was super cool to see Lucky Brand Jeans partner with Lola Langusta of Stoned Fox on a limited edition cannabis leaf-printed drop for 4/20. $10 of every piece sold on luckybrand.com in April will be donated to Last Prisoner Project.
I can think of a few people who are already adding Veosa’s new 14k gold-plated one hitter to their wishlist. A beautiful piece that I’m sure feels amazing in the hand.
The #1, most exciting thing I saw during this week’s online explorations: A desktop fan/filter! The website shows it being used next to a stove, but the ad I saw implies it’s also suggested for use when smoking indoors. I’m sure I’m at the top of their targeted user lists, I can’t stop talking about the need for better at-home smoke solutions. I will be ordering one for research purposes—review incoming.

Can’t wait for the Lorivu review. I’ve been seeing this everywhere!
