A Mini Roundtable on New Territories: Liv Vasquez and Sundae School Chat Discord & Patreon.
The internet gets bigger and more complicated every day. Who has time to maintain a presence in every corner of it? Over the past year, I gave up posting on TikTok but leaned into LinkedIn, where my follower growth has been more substantial than Twitter or IG. It really is the new/old Facebook, before pictures dominated and everyone was still conducting themselves fairly professionally. I also enjoy Letterboxd for movie recommendations and sharing my watchlists, but I only open it when I’ve watched something particularly great (or terrible).
Two platforms that I’ve never experimented with: Discord and Patreon. However, I do know two businesses that have been investing time in these spaces. In the last year or so, Sundae School started a Discord channel, and Liv Vasquez launched a Patreon, so I reached out to hear how things are going. Keep reading for a Q&A with Vasquez and Sundae School co-founder Dae Lim explaining why they chose these apps, who’s finding them there, and if they’re sticking around.
