As a full-time freelancer, I am very familiar with the stress of unpaid invoices. I have lost sleep over them and questioned my life choices over them. However, I am a company of one, without employees or significant assets to maintain. So, when I hear about cannabis companies getting ghosted for tens of thousands of dollars, it rocks my imagination in the worst possible way. 

During this time of contraction in much of the cannabis space, I’ve unfortunately heard from so many dealing with this stress. I reached out to Lex Corwin, CEO and founder of Stone Road, after hearing a little about his experience following delivery giant Grassdoor’s closure. I’d heard he was owed around $50k in unpaid invoices, and I wanted to hear how it got to that point and what his plan would be to get any or all of it back.

He was down to get candid about it, also zooming out to help me understand the factors in California’s industry that got us here, discuss how brands can avoid this degree of losses, and share his best advice for seeking trustworthy partners.
